My Polos Tell a Story

You may see me wearing some “traditional” golf attire, majority of my rounds. But I do love the occasional “loud” outfit.

The truth is, like most golfers, I collect entirely too many things. Whether it be balls I purchase from every course I’ve ever played (try me, I have it), greens coins from some of my favorites, yardage books a plenty tucked away in a shoe box in my closet.

But nothing can quite compare to that polo you bought from *insert any  beautiful story from one of the many you will hear along your, what I hope is life-long, 18 holes of golf each weekend*. Like many, I have storied logos on my left breast that I dawn with pride, eager to be asked about how I acquired the piece of clothing that’s currently on my back, so that I may share the vivid picture I have painted in my head from *insert golf trip/destination course here*.

I’d be lying if I said I don’t especially enjoy those spring/fall golf days (or even the occasional overcast days in the summer) when I can wear  the maroon polo you see above (look at my socials, it’s made its way to quite a few), knowing it will be perfect for the weather. Sure, it goes well with my white golf shoes, and most of my shorts. But what lies beneath the UMass logo on the breast of that maroon polo, is the beaming amount of pride I have for my baby sister.

I won’t spoil you with the remainder of the details. Not because I don’t want to, but because I want the message to be heard louder than my story.

The message here is this: we all have a maroon polo, we all have a story. As human beings, and largely as strangers, we want to feel like we belong. So, the next time you head out with a single, and they’re wearing any sort of polo/quarter-zip/carrying a special scorecard holder, I hope you ask them about their story.

I look forward to hearing about yours and sharing with you mine in person. See you in the next tee box.

“Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours!”
